Bio: Jim Beaver was born August 12, 1950, in Laramie, Wyoming, and raised in Irving, Texas, the son of a minister. After service with the U.S. Marines in Vietnam, he attended Oklahoma Christian College and graduated from Central State University (now the University of Central Oklahoma) in 1975 with a degree in Theatre. He wrote his first plays while in college, as well as a book, "John Garfield: His Life and Films." He continued to write plays while pursuing an acting career. In 1981, he received wide recognition for "Spades," a short play commissioned and produced by Actors Theatre of Louisville. His association with ATL continued with two more commissions ("Sidekick" [1983] and "Semper Fi" [1984]), as well as two finalist plays in ATL's Great American Play Contest ("Verdigris" [1981] and "Once Upon a Single Bound" [1982]). A production of "Verdigris" in Los Angeles in 1985 received excellent notices and resulted in a successful new career in film and television writing.
